Destinations >> Highlands :> Highlands - Cao Bang Cao Bang province is located in the Far Northeast, shares borders with China on the north and east, Bac Kan and Lang Son provinces in the south, and Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang on the west. There are nine ethnic minorities living in Cao Bang, including the Tay, Nung, Dao, and H'mong. The tropical climate of this mountainous region brings temperate weather divided in four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. The hottest month is May, and the coldest is January. The average temperature is 22°C. Snow sometimes falls in winter on high mountains such as Trung Khanh, Tra Linh. Cao Bang is relatively poor compared to other Vietnamese provinces. Most of the province’s economy is centered around agriculture and forestry as more than 90% of Cao Bang's natural area is covered by mountains and forests abundant in timber and other valuable forest products. Facilities such as schools and hospitals tend to be in poor condition, but are gradually improving. Transportation, once a major problem, has been improved considerably by new road construction. :> Ban Gioc Waterfall Ban Gioc Waterfall on Quy Xuan River is located in the Trung Khanh district in Cao Bang province, 272 kilometers north of Hanoi. The waterfall originates from Quay Son River (China) and downstream flows back to China. It is the most beautiful and impoosing waterfall in Vietnam. The waterfall is 53 meters high and 300 meters wild. It is dived into three layers consisting of small and large upper flows. Large water blocks fall into limestone steps, making a curtain of white sprays. Rising from middle of the waterfall is a large water mound covered with trees, splitting the river into three white silk strips. On hot summer days, it is still cool here. Every early morning, the sun shines through steam creating a sparkling rainbow. :> Nguom Ngao Cave Nguom Ngao is one of the largest caves in Vietnam located inside a mountain among the range of limestone mountains in Gun hamlet, Dam Thuy commune, Trung Khanh district. Nguom Ngao Cave is 2,144m long including three main entrances namely Nguom Ngao, Nguom Lom and Ban Thuon. The cave is the wonderful world of stone statues in the shapes of human bodies, forest plant, animals, a fairy combining her hair or a lotus bulb, etc. From high stone cliffs, sparking seven-colored stalactites hang down.
