:> Central Highlands - Pleiku

Pleiku is the capital of the Gia Lai province in the central highlands of Vietnam. It is around 950 kilometers north of Ho Chi Minh City, located amid the vast and flat basaltic plateau where is the location for tea and coffee, the two main crops in the reason.

Pleiku was strategically important during the Vietnam War because of the presence of military firebases. It is inhabited primarily by the Bahnar and Jarai ethnic groups, sometimes known as the Montagnards or Degar.

The town sits at the junction of several highways - the northern road to Kontum and the highway west to Stoeng Treng in Cambodia.

There are two distinctive seasons in Pleiku: the rainy season starts from May and ends in November. The dry season begins in December and finishes in April.  Average temperature in the year is 23 degree Celsius. Pleiku is accessible from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City by both air and by land.
