| Destinations >> Central Highlands :> Central Highlands - Buon Ma Thuot Buon Ma Thuot or Ban Me Thuot is the capital of Dak Lak privince and home of the E De people. Located deep in the Central Highlands, about 360km from Ho Chi Minh City, Buon Ma Thuot is relatively off the beaten track that is worth a visit. Buon Ma Thuot offers the visitors the fresh nature beauty characterised by temperate climate, waterfalls, rivers, lakes and national parks. It is home of E De, M’Nong and Bahnar ethnic groups of which the century-old traditions are well kept. Sharing the traditional dance with a local ethnic group by the fire is a good memory to bring home for any travellers. Today Buon Ma Thuot is where you can find the best coffee in Vietnam. :> Ban Don (Don village) Don village is famous for catching and taming wild elephants, and elephant riding is an interesting way to get around. Situated on the banks of the Krong Ana River, the village is 50km from Buon Ma Thuot. The village has many very beautiful stilt houses built by the M'Nong, Gia Lai, Khmer and Loa ethnic groups. The village also offers opportunities to join in the cultural activities of ethnic people, cooking rice and tasting Ruou Can - a wine distilled from wild leaves, cassava roots and rice, drunkfrom a large earthen jar through bamboo straws.
:> Jun Village Jun Village is home to the M'nong Rlam People who live in long houses. The village is located by the Lak Lake. The travellers to the village have the options of riding elephant, rowing in dug-out boats and staying with a local family overnight. :> M’Lieng village M'Lieng is another village of the M'Nong People. Nestled in the shadows of the mountains and decorated with the Lak Lake and Kron Ana River, M'Lieng still preserves most of its untouched traditions and customs. M'Lieng can only be reached by a dug-out boat trip or an elephant ride from Jun Village. :> Dray Nur Waterfall Dray Nur Waterfall is located 25km south of Buon Ma Thuot City. Dray Nur is of 250m in length and 30m in height. The waterfall is created by the water of Krong Ana and Krong No Rivers. There's a cave underneath the waterfall that brings exotic experience to the adventure travellers. :> Lak Lake Lak Lake (Ho Lak) is about 56km south of Buon Ma Thuot. The lake covers an area of 500ha with elevation of 500m. Framed by low mountains, the lake is home to many varieties of wading birds. Emperor Bao Dai built a small palace here, but it is now in ruins. A climb up the adjacent hill is well worthwhile for its fantastic lake views. A visit to the nearby M'nong villages is also a unique experience.
